Today I applied to test Rob Rhinehart’s Soylent. If you haven’t heard about Soylent, it is basically a cheap meal replacement shake-like thing made from pure ingredients that he’s been developing. From his site:
What if I consumed only the raw ingredients the body uses for energy? Would I be healthier or do we need all the other stuff that’s in traditional food? If it does work, what would it feel like to have a perfectly balanced diet? I just want to be in good health and spend as little time and money on food as possible.
I’ve previously experimented with CRON, after hearing of the experimental studies suggesting calorie restriction can extend lifespan. I was a vegan at the time, aiming for 50% raw, and I tried to eat from 1100 to 1300 calories a day. I managed to meet my nutritional requirements, but in the end I felt the diet was hindering my social life too much. This guy seems to have the same values as me, he wants this to be as fast and cheap as possible, and permissive of the occasional eating of food with friends or for fun. He is also a fellow user of nootropics, (I use choline and piracetam, though I haven’t since I lost my job). So here is hoping he picks me for the experiment!
